One of the nine centres
The Spleen centre
Instinct in this second. A sense of safety, a nose for danger, fear that protects.
How it works
It is the oldest awareness centre. It works only in the present moment, spontaneously and without explaining itself. Its fears are primal and short, they appear to warn you and pass together with the danger.
When it is defined
You have a steady instinct and it speaks now, not in an hour. It speaks once and does not repeat itself, so it is worth hearing the first time.
You usually sense well what serves you, in food, in people and in places. Others may feel safer around you. It is worth writing hunches down before the mind talks them away, because they are easy to forget later.
What did my body tell me in the first moment, before the mind had its say?
When it is open
You absorb other people's fear and other people's sense of safety. It is hard to tell whether it is you who is afraid or somebody next to you. A good question is whose it is.
You quickly sense who is well and who is not, and you recognise what is harming somebody. This sensitivity can be a gift to the people close to you. The trap is holding on to people, things or situations only because they feel safe.
Am I holding on to something that no longer serves me only because it makes me feel safe?
